Parenting Support

We become parents without any required instruction or tests. But if you are a parent, you know you don’t have all the answers you need. You’re probably a loving parent and you’re here because you’re willing to learn something to improve your parenting skills. Love is, of course, the most important part of parenting. You may have love in abundance and not know how to express it effectively within your family. You may want your children to feel more freedom than you did growing up, but not know how to do that and maintain any resemblance of order in your home. Many parents figure out what they want in their home from what they didn’t like growing up themselves. If you grew up without trust from your parents, you don’t automatically know how to raise your child to feel trusted yet understanding that trust is earned in every relationship.
I intend to use this site as a forum to share some of the things I’ve learned and to answer specific questions readers may have for me. We may share the question and hope a good answer will come from another reader. The point being - you don’t have to feel alone in your efforts to be a great parent. As we develop this site, I hope you’ll find helpful insights and referrals to other sources of help.
I’ll present principles of parenting for raising happy children. A principle would be a truth we want our children to buy into. "You are loveable" is a principle we want each child to accept as true. "You are capable" is another. I believe successful parenting hinges on effectively teaching these two principles. Life will end up teaching most other principles whether parents do or not. But parents (or primary care givers) are the teachers of these two principles - if they are going to be learned. We’ll discuss them often.
Below is a link I hope you'll find helpful. It takes you to poems and stories I've created for my grandchildren to help them view themselves positively. I'd like you to copy them as I post them and personalize them for your children. This first poem is about being capable.
